Sittingbourne is a busy market town with good rail links, and plenty of people here get by without a car. Here's how to get around, and when a taxi makes more sense.
The station
Sittingbourne station is the town's big transport link, with trains to London (including high-speed services to St Pancras), the Medway towns and the Kent coast, plus the Sheerness line across to Sheppey. If you're carrying bags, a taxi from home to the station is quick: most of the town is within a couple of miles.
Around town
The High Street, The Forum shopping centre and the station are all close together, so walking works well in the centre. Milton Creek Country Park is a short trip north, and buses cover the main routes during the day.
When a taxi makes sense
- Hospital appointments: Medway Maritime is about 12.7 miles away
- Big shopping trips: Bluewater is about 26.8 miles (around 35 minutes)
- Eurostar: Ebbsfleet International is about 25.2 miles
- Visiting Sheppey: Sheerness is about 9.9 miles over the Sheppey Crossing
- Late at night: after the last buses, or when you just want to get home safely
