School transport is easiest to sort out before you need it. Here are the moments to plan ahead.
The key moments
- Before September: once your child's school place and timetable are confirmed
- Starting secondary school: many children move to a school further away, often on the mainland
- Moving house: a new address can mean a much longer school journey
- A change at work: new shifts that clash with drop-off or pickup
- After-school clubs: later finishes that don't fit the bus
Schools off the island
Lots of Sheppey children go to school in Sittingbourne and beyond. From Sheerness, Sittingbourne is about 9.8 miles by road, and the Sheppey Crossing can be busy at school times, so a reliable, regular booking really helps.
Council transport
Some children are eligible for free home-to-school transport from Kent County Council. Check the council's rules first; if your child isn't eligible, or you want more flexibility, a private arrangement with us is the alternative.
