The first Saturday of the summer holidays is one of the busiest days of the year at every London airport, and on the roads that lead to them. A bit of planning makes all the difference.
Book your taxi when you book your flights
Early-morning slots on the first and last weekends of the holidays, half-term and around Christmas are the first to go. Booking as soon as you have your flights means you're not hunting for a pickup the week before.
Leave more time than usual
Security queues, bag drop and parking are all busier in the holidays. Add 30 minutes to your normal plan, and more if you're flying from Stansted, Luton or Southend and crossing at Dartford on a Saturday morning.
Pick the right vehicle for a family
A two-week family holiday means a lot of luggage. Tell us how many cases, buggies and car seats you have, and consider a minibus if you're travelling with grandparents or another family.
Book the journey home too
The last weekend of the holidays is just as busy coming back. Give us your return flight number and we'll be there when you land.
